Motion vs Resolution – March 2011

What is the difference between a main motion and a resolution?

Opinion:  A resolution is a formally written form of a main motion. A member may “make”, “move”, or “offer” a motion or, “because of its importance or … its length of complexity” may prefer to cast his proposal in the form of a resolution with or without a preamble (RONR, pages 32-33; 100-102).
